1 snake + husband in Europe = a very freaked out Brook
Yesterday I heard 4 little elephants running up the stairs screaming at the top of their lungs. What were they screaming......"THERE IS A SNAKE IN THE BASEMENT!!!!!!!" Normally like any good mom I would have shut the door and waited for hubby to come home and promptly send him right down the stairs and tell him not to come back up until said snake had been caught. Oh but I unfortunately did not have such a luxury seeing as hubby won't be home for 4 more days.
So I put my best "mom" face on and pretended like it was no big deal while inside my heart was POUNDING. I grabbed the biggest pot I could find and made my way down the stairs. I had the kids point out where it was and I saw it. Sure enough a living breathing slithering snake was curled up behind some toys. Ok so I must admit it was not a large snake. Seriously any husband would have laughed and picked it up and thrown it outside. But hello......I am not a husband. I feel fine admitting that I am a girly girl and I don't enjoy slithering creatures in my house.
After a few minutes of snake wrangling I caught it under the pot. I told Abby to sit on it and not move. I taped together some fedex boxes and slowly slid them under the pot. SUCCESS! I then carefully carried it outside and let it go out in the woods where it will hopefully stay.
Don't ask me where it came from. I seriously don't want to know and pray that it was a freak circumstance. I can now add one more notch on my mommy belt as doing something I NEVER thought I would have to do but some how managed to keep a smile on my face while doing it.
This is the closest picture I could find of my little friend. Needless to say while a snake was in my house my first thought was not to grab my camera and take a picture of it. Please don't laugh you will just hurt my feelings. Doesn't it look deadly?????

Okay, you get major points for that one! I would have shut the basement door and stuffed towels in the crack on the bottom - it would have stayed that way until the hubby came home! Besides, aren't all snakes poisonous? Well, at least if you want them to be, they are.
HA...I would have made Angie get it and I may have put the house up for sale because it had a snake hole in the foundation.
Ok supermom - I know we've already chatted about this, but in the picture the snake is a freakish red color! Is that what it really looked like? Not a friendly brown garden snake? Let's just say I am EXTREMELY impressed.
Way to go Brook! It's hard having husbands go out of town. But somehow we survive!
You are AMAZING! However, I hope you NEVER have to do that again!!
oh brook I give you props for that one! i would have been just as freaked out about the whole thing as you - girly girl i am too :)good job on catching it and releasing it - how nice of you! i think you handled it great and have a great story for charlie when he comes home!
I have to say I am VERY impressed! Way to go for removing the snake AND keeping your cool. If this ever happens at our house, I may have to call for advice. Rick is so deathly afraid of snakes that I know I'll be the one retrieving it whether he's home or not, lol!
You're My Hero...Ferris Bueller, I mean Brook Carn. Way to go .. Charlie owes you big time for not being home for this one. You should get a bumper sticker...Brook Carn -- Keeping Midland Safe from Harm and Accident..AMEN
Love Mom
I'm so glad it was caught! Could you imagine him slithering around your house waiting for chuck to return?!?! You're awesome!
Wow you are wonderwoman, tiny snake of not I would have been claling the neighbours or home teachers or someone else useful.
I also fear I'd have to move due to fear of a repeat occurence.
