A few years ago we set a goal to have a no spending month. This year when we sat down to make our new goals we decided to give it a try again. Starting today we will have no extra spending for an entire month!
What this means for us is that we still buy gas and groceries and register kids for their sports classes and pay bills and piano teachers. There will however be no eating out, no movie rentals, no clothing purchases, no sledding or bowling days, no swimming at the community center....and so on. There will also be no purchasing of gloves or boots or shoes if some happen to be lost or misplaced. If you get a hole in your favorite pair of jeans, oh well. And if I happen to see a screaming deal on the cutest shirt ever I will have to just keep on walking.
We actually really enjoyed this challenge when we did it a few years ago and I think we may just keep it on our goals from now on.
While this month will be filled with a lot of "No, we can't do that", it will also be filled with a lot of creativity. Date nights become more interesting to plan. Keeping the kids busy becomes a little more challenging but usually we end up thinking of something more fun to do that is absolutely free. We will watch our own movies and play our own games and even come up with entirely new ideas that I am sure will involve huge forts and lots of laughs.
So, while I have a ton of blogging catching up to do I knew I had to post this to make me stick to it. Now I am to be held accountable by all of you as well as my own family.
I'll let you know how it goes and the end of the month and what lessons we learn. Wish us luck!

SO funny...I was just thinking about you doing this today, and debating if we should as well. I can't do it this month--too much baby stuff to buy. Does that count? She will need clothes. And a car seat.
